Sunday at St Luke's

Sunday holds special significance at St Luke’s, as it is the day we gather to worship Our Lord. This time together not only strengthens our faith but also renews the bonds of friendship among Christian friends, many of whom we see only on this day each week.

Our main worship services follow a regular pattern, which is described below. While this pattern is consistent most months, there are variations, especially during Advent. To help you stay informed, we provide a details of upcoming services on the website of A Church Near You.

If you have any special wishes, such as arranging a baptism, seeking confirmation, or planning a wedding, please contact us. We are here to support and guide you through these important milestones in your faith journey. Feel free to reach out so we can help you prepare and celebrate these meaningful occasions within our church community.

8.30 am

Our Sunday worship starts with Holy Communion at 8.30 am. The service is from Common Worship or, on the first and third Sundays of the month from the Book of Common Prayer.

The service is normally said, although on occasion a hymn may be sung. The sermon is usually similar to the sermon preached in the next service with the same preacher presenting both.

9.30 am - Parish Breakfast

After the 8:30 am and 10:30 am Sunday services, we normally offer refreshments. This time is set aside to allow those attending the services to meet together, providing an opportunity to connect and strengthen friendships among fellow Christians. By sharing refreshments, we create an inviting environment for conversation and fellowship.

Once a month, we take this a step further by hosting a breakfast between the two morning services. This special occasion makes it possible for members of St Luke’s who typically attend different services to come together. It offers a valuable chance for people to meet and get to know Christians whom they might not otherwise encounter, further building unity and community within our congregation.

The 10:30 am service offers a lively atmosphere and extends a warm welcome to individuals from all age groups. On the first Sunday of each month, the entire congregation gathers together for a family Holy Communion service, fostering a sense of unity and shared worship. For the remaining Sundays, young people divide into two groups, where they participate in dedicated sessions of worship and teaching tailored to their needs. In addition, a creche is available at the back of the church, enabling very young children to stay close to their families during the service.

Holy Communion is typically celebrated on the first and third Sundays of the month. The other Sundays are devoted to services that focus on praise, creating a varied pattern of worship throughout the month. The sermon during each service usually centres on a particular Bible passage, offering insight and reflection grounded in scripture.
