James Edward Mills

James was Master on the S. S. Viking Star.

He was killed at the age of 43 on 25 August 1942 leaving a widow Anne in Formby.  He was one of eight killed when his ship was torpedoed by Kapitän Ernst Kals in U-130, but some of the crew survived and a full account of the incident can be found at http://www.bluestarline.org/viking.html

Although U-130 was successfully depth-charged in March 1943 and went down with all hands, Kals survived the war and died in 1979 aged 74.
