Alfred Nigel Whitley Sykes
Alfred was born in 1919 and, at the age of 14, started at the Leys School in Cambridge where he was in North B house. On leaving school he worked as a farmer and joined the Shropshire Yeomanry RA (TA) as a trooper. In 1940 he was sent to France, and was subsequently evacuated from Dunkirk. He was killed on 2nd July 1940 when the Arandora Star was sunk by enemy action. He is commemorated at the Brookwood memorial.
